Features of honing processing

Honing is a special form of grinding, and it is also a relatively efficient machining method in finishing. 

The characteristics of honing processing are as follows:

1. High processing accuracy: especially for some small and medium-sized light through holes, the cylindricity can reach within 0.001mm. For some parts with uneven wall thickness, such as connecting rods, the roundness can reach 0.002mm. For large holes (with a diameter of less than 200mm), the roundness can also reach 0.005mm. If there is no annular groove or radial holes, etc., the straightness within 0.01mm is also possible. Honing has higher processing accuracy than grinding. During grinding, the bearing supporting the grinding wheel is located outside the honed hole, which will cause deviation, especially for small hole processing, and the grinding accuracy is worse than that of honing. Honing can generally only improve the shape accuracy of the workpiece. In order to improve the position accuracy of the parts, some necessary measures need to be taken. For example, use the panel to improve the perpendicularity between the end face of the part and the axis (the panel is installed on the stroke arm, adjust it to be perpendicular to the rotating spindle, and the parts can be processed against the panel).

2. Good surface quality: the surface is cross textured, which is conducive to the storage of lubricating oil and the maintenance of oil film. It has a high surface support rate (the ratio of the actual contact area between the hole and the shaft and the matching area between the two), so it can bear a large load and is resistant to wear, thereby improving the service life of the product. The honing speed is low (a few tenths of the grinding speed), and the whetstone is in surface contact with the hole, so the average grinding pressure of each abrasive particle is small, so that the calorific value of the workpiece is small, and the surface of the workpiece is almost free of thermal damage And the metamorphic layer, the deformation is small. The honed surface is almost free of sand embedded and extruded hard layers. Grinding has a higher cutting pressure than honing, and the abrasive tool and the workpiece are in line contact with a higher relative speed. As a result, high temperatures are generated in local areas, which can lead to permanent damage to the surface structure of the part.

3. Wide range of processing: mainly processing various cylindrical holes: light through holes. Axial and radial interrupted holes, such as radial holes or grooved holes, keyway holes, spline holes. Blind hole. Multi-step holes, etc. In addition, with the special honing head, conical holes, elliptical holes, etc. can also be processed, but due to the complex structure of the honing head, it is generally not used. Cylinders can be honed with external honing tools, but the allowance removed is far less than that of internal honing. Almost any material can be machined, especially diamond and cubic boron nitride abrasive applications. At the same time, the efficiency of honing processing is also improved.
